Most algae oil capsules give you 300 to 500mg of actual omega-3 and hope you only read the big number on the front. Sports Research does the opposite. Its Vegan Omega-3 puts roughly 980mg of EPA plus DHA in a single serving, which is close to double the field. That one fact makes it the best dose-per-dollar option we found, even though it is not the cheapest bottle on the shelf.

What you actually get

EPA and DHA milligrams per serving: Sports Research 700 DHA plus 280 EPA for 980 total, Nordic Naturals 390 plus 195 for 585, Calgee 300 plus 150 for 450, Freshfield 225 DHA with essentially no EPA, and iwi 250 total that it calls EPA-led without publishing a split.
What one serving of each bottle actually delivers, split into DHA and EPA, taken from each product's supplement facts panel.

The split runs heavily toward DHA, about 700mg DHA and 280mg EPA. DHA is the omega-3 your brain, eyes, and nervous system are built from, so a DHA-forward profile is a reasonable default for most people. It does mean you are lighter on EPA, the omega-3 more associated with calming inflammation. If EPA is specifically why you are buying, look at Nordic Naturals, which gives a more even split, or plan to take a slightly higher serving.

The oil comes from algae, so there is no mercury, no ocean contaminants, and no fishy repeat. The softgels are carrageenan-free. The brand is Non-GMO and vegan certified.

The testing question, told straight

Sports Research is well known for IFOS certification on its fish oil line. That certification does not clearly transfer to the vegan algae product, which the company describes as third-party tested. That is not a red flag, third-party testing is a real bar, but if a specific IFOS seal is what you want, confirm it on the current label rather than assuming the fish oil reputation covers this bottle.

Who should buy it

Cost per 500 milligrams of EPA plus DHA: Sports Research about 58 cents, Nordic Naturals about 64 cents, Calgee about one dollar, Freshfield about one dollar eleven for DHA only, and iwi about two dollars twenty-six, making iwi roughly four times the cost of Sports Research for the same omega-3.

Buy it if you want the most real omega-3 in the fewest pills and the lowest cost per dose. It is the efficient choice. Skip it if you specifically want a high-EPA formula, or if you prefer the longest, cleanest brand testing record, where Nordic Naturals still leads.
